Just wanted to put a reminder that if you make an rpg book with found art, make sure you get the artist's permission to use it for your book. When do you know the rulebook is finished: This is one of the most difficult questions to answer. You can spend your whole life trying to make something and never be completely satisfied with the product.
You should hop on RPG.net and read reviews on your favorite games. That will give you tons of opinions on what makes a good book layout. For me: table of contents, an index, a glossary, cheat sheets, and all the critical rules in logical sequence. Don't be like some and make your book's core rules scattered throughout the book in call out boxes.

There are no examples or step by step instructions. Nothing to really help anyone write an adventure. You'd be better off reading the same kind of section in your favorite RPG manual, if it has one. Also, it seems that the writers used over-sized typeface to bolster the size of the publication. On top of that, the formatting is poorly done.Read More
I see OSR-type RPG products as toolkits. A dungeon map and key are just tools that let a GM create a game. The game isn't in the book, it's the thing the book helps create. Build the best possible tools, label them and give guidelines, but don't forget what you're doing. If you want to tell a story, write a novel or pick a different genre of RPG.Read More

In an RPG, much of the world is developed over time, and often only surface elements are scratched and understood, just as in a novel, where 90% of the history and foundation of a created world or universe is never directly observed, or even recognized, by the reader. But still, it is there.Read More
THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO FREE-FORMAT RPG Factor 1, if there is one, follows the operation code. Factor 2 and the Result then trail Factor 1. At least one space must separate the pieces of the statement; however, the operation code extender must be joined to the operation code with no space. Free-format RPG uses many of the same operation codes.Read More
