In my work, I advise students to avoid topics such as death, divorce, anxiety and depression, winning the game, the service trip, serious health issues of self or a family member, “naughty” stuff, and so on.Social Taboos Social taboos can either be good or bad depending upon variety of factors such as cultural, social, ethical, and moral that constantly influence a particular region or a society. For example, marriage is deemed as a sacred practice or ritual in India whereas in western world marriage simply implies a trusted companionship between two individuals of opposite sex.Many of the concepts we view as taboo are rarely discussed because it makes us uncomfortable to confront them. However, those behaviors that are classified as taboo usually are a major concern for our society. Taboo is a result of generations of civilizations who reject behaviors, including language behaviors, which they deem unacceptable.
